Biography: Jim
Mellett
I was born and raised in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I studied art at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania (IUP) where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
in 1985. I also attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for two
years. I am able to do many styles of illustration, but my primary
commercial illustration work uses bright, liquid strokes of color
in a form of graphic realism. As a free-lance illustrator since 1990,
I have worked with publishers, designers, and agencies across the
country. My longest running professional relationship is with White
Mountain Puzzles of Jackson, NH www.puzzlemaps.com.
I have completed over 20 puzzles for White Mountain
since 1995, including some of their top sellers. My puzzle depicting Television
History was
White Mountain Puzzles’ number one selling puzzle for the year
2005. I have been lucky enough to have work accepted into the Society
of Illustrators’ Los
Angeles annual show #39. My sports art has won awards from Beckett
Publications’ annual
sports art gallery. I am the secretary and a founding member of the
Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators (PSI) www.pittsburghillustrators.org.
The PSI is the fourth largest professional illustrators society in
the United States. My wife, daughter, and I live in Mt.
Lebanon, a
suburb of Pittsburgh.
